Escaping Flatland- Christian Flood

This excerpt "Escaping Flatlands" is about the different types of design strategies mainly ones that sharpen resolution of a picture or screen. One thing I found very interesting about this article was when toads shed their skin the suit lives space land and goes to flatland opposed to our information displays. Towards the end another really cool piece of the article jumped out at me. The diagram and summary of the rail road tracks look extremely complex and had to be designed and structured a certain way in order for the train to run successfully.

Post Modernism- Christian Flood

In the Post Modernism article it talks about different works of art post modernism and then continues to tell us what factors helped advance works of art during this time period. Many works of art were becoming more advanced due to modernism and industrialization that was also happening in the world. Tools got more advanced and there was a lot more artwork being made and sold. The biggest influences in this pre modernism era was music and commercializing. Many artists had opportunities to create master pieces during this time due to high revenue intakes and the amount of people wanting to buy artwork for decoration or collection. Finally the reason why art was flourishing was because of all the outside factors affecting it which gave them more options to work with and chose the right works based off of what people want in the world today.

Colors- Christian Flood

Throughout this podcast the speaker discusses the different types of colors are in the world and how different individuals or animals can see things differently and how. My favorite part of the podcast was when I learned how butterflies, humans and birds can all see different colors but all of the species are looking at the same thing. I also found it very interesting when the ancient Greeks were believed to not be able to see the color blue. Although many things around the world have the blue color for some reason these greeks were restricted. Finally I found it very cool how shrimp have the ability to see way more colors and light then any other specie and they are just so small it seems almost impossible. The one thing I don't understand is how humans don't have access to see different colors that these small creatures are.

White object assignment- Christian Flood

Lights On In this picture I had turned the kitchen lights on a see that each object will look brighter then that of when the lights are off. There really isn't a whole lot of difference in color except the paper towels have designs on them making it a little bit darker then the sandwich container. Lights Off In this picture the lights are turned off. Here the two objects both give off a darker look to there overall appearance as well as casting darker shadows then when the lights are on. The colors in the new lighting look more like a grey then the original white that the two objects looked like in the first picture.

1.  Red Plum by Thomas Downing      This sculpture is a piece of artwork which I believe is trying to convey a picnic or fruit of some sort. I believe each different circle represents a different fruit. I was least interested in this painting out of all my featured ones that I saw at the BMA. I just don't see a lot I can connect to with this sculpture . 2. Women With Basket Of Fruit by Pierre Bonnard      In this Painting we see a women who looks like she is in some sort of a chefs outfit and is possibly preparing to cook something with the fresh fruit in the basket. This painting makes me feel Happy and hungry as the basket of fruit looks extremely tasty and everything in the picture seems very happy and calm and gives me a lot of positive vibes. 3. Chimeras in the Mountains by Max Ernst     In this painting we see a calm valley range with mountains and whats seems to be mythical birds. I believe this poem is trying to portray a calm and unharmed valley guarded by these c

Ways of seeing

In the Reading Ways of Seeing by John Berger. It talks about the importance of imagery and different perspectives of photos and how you can portray them. One insightful thing Berger said was that imagery was first used to conjure up the appearance of something that was absent. I think its cool that, that is how imagery started and it has grown into the very important and meaningful theme it is today. Another perspective of imagery from Berger was all the emotional change that was felt in the paintings. I believe many of the paintings are meant to touch people or have the ability to connect easily with. For perspective if there was a painting of a pool in the summer, many people can relate to that there connecting with a part of their life.
